VIÑA ZORZAL, GARNACHA 2023, NAVARRA, SPAIN $15.99 (MIXED) We love finding amazing wines from overlooked regions, and I struggle to think of a more ignored region than that of Navarra. Sandwiched between Rioja to the West and Priorat to the East. Here garnacha (grenache) grows in abundance. An alluring medium-bright ruby hue. As you bring it to your nose, you'll be enveloped by the pure aromas of strawberries, cherries, and a hint of pepper, all intertwined with a subtle earthy notes. On the palate, you'll discover its dry and refreshing nature, with gentle tannins and a balanced structure. I can’t think of a better red to drink on a crisp Spring evening, especially if you have something warm and spiced, like Japanese curry.

SOETMELKSVLEI, CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2020, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA $15.99 Babylonstoren is one of the oldest farms in the Cape Dutch area of South Africa, founded at the close of the 17th century. Offering a full farm with unique gardens and a hotel with marque restaurant, Babylonstoren is a small town in itself. Their Soemelksvlei, meaning ‘milk and honey’ in old dutch, is a side project they launched a few years ago as a self-sustaining farm, complete with their own vineyards, where the Cabernet Sauvignon for this wine is sourced from. A dry, full-bodied wine with a deep ruby color, aromas of cassis and dried herbs abound, leading to a palate of ripe blackberry, the tannins are refined, lingering with subtle notes of graphite and mulberry.

FIGUIÈRE, MÉDITERRANÉE RED BLEND 2023, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE $17.99 (MIXED) Figuière is located in La Londe-les-Maures between Marseille and Nice with vineyards that lie just a few hundred meters from the Mediterranean Sea. Alain Combard purchased the property in 1992 after discovering its cool coastal climate and
unique schist soils, these two factors define their style and their goal: to craft easy to enjoy wines with fresh acidity and minerality. A blend of the typical Rhone varieties with some Cabernet Sauvignon to add structure; the nose offers intense fruity notes evoking blackberry, cherry and black olive. Accents of spice and fresh tobacco punctuate its gourmet fruit aromas. The attack is fresh, then the wine gains in suppleness, generosity and deliciousness. The wine’s tension is balanced by an impression of sweetness. Long-lasting aromas of licorice and pepper.

TORREMORON, TEMPRANILLO 2023, RIBEIRA DEL DUERO, SPAIN $16.99 The phrase ‘it takes a village’ is realized in its most literal meaning in this wine coming from the quaint hamlet of Quintanamanvirgo in DO Ribera del Duero, where the entire population, <100 people, are devoted to the production of this one wine. This amazing bottle of old vine Tempranillo comes from vines aging from 60-110 years old. Deep ruby color with aromas of wild lavender, crushed berries and tobacco, with saturated and lush flavors of blackberry, black cherry and espresso. The savory tannins are sizable and the finish generous, and this wine see no oak aging bringing freshness to the glass.

LOVO VENETO, ‘BLOSSOM’ ROSSO 2020, VENETO, ITALY $15.99 (MIXED) Salvatore Lovo works with his wife Rita & daughter Silvia, growing varieties of northern Italy, tending 17 hectares of high-altitude vines & working with like minded local growers. The winery was built in 2004 on farmlands that have been in the family since the 18th century. The Blossom Rosso is a 50/50 blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, grown in the hills of Italy’s Veneto region. Enologist Salvatore Lovo runs the estate with the help of his daughter, Silvia. Together, the Lovos tend over 105 hectares just south of Padua. This medium-bodied red has a core of dark red fruit, along with notes of herbs and spice. Try it with grilled Italian sausages.

LAROQUE, CITÉ DE CARCASSONNE, PINOT NOIR 2022, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE  $14.99 Located between the Pyrenees and the Black Mountains, Laroque enjoys a privileged climatic position where the excesses of the Mediterranean climate are tempered by the softness of the Atlantic climate. This results in sunny, hot, and dry days, but also in cool nights. This extraordinary harmony in nature creates wines that are fresh, elegant, and balanced. A bright translucent ruby-red color in the glass. Upfront aromas of ripe raspberry, bing cherry, and cranberry fruits with a slight dusty floral note. Nicely balanced on the palate, fresh berry flavors with a soft, dry finish. Pair it with salmon steaks, pork tenderloin charred on the grill, chicken any way or mild to medium cheeses.
