REDS:

VIÑA ZORZAL, GARNACHA 2023, NAVARRA, SPAIN $15.99 We love finding amazing wines from overlooked regions, and I struggle to think of a more ignored region than that of Navarra. Sandwiched between Rioja to the West and Priorat to the East. Here garnacha (grenache) grows in abundance. An alluring medium-bright ruby hue. As you bring it to your nose, you'll be enveloped by the pure aromas of strawberries, cherries, and a hint of pepper, all intertwined with a subtle earthy notes. On the palate, you'll discover its dry and refreshing nature, with gentle tannins and a balanced structure. I can’t think of a better red to drink on a crisp Spring evening, especially if you have something warm and spiced, like Japanese curry.

FIGUIÈRE, MÉDITERRANÉE RED BLEND 2023, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE $17.99 Figuière is located in La Londe-les-Maures between Marseille and Nice with vineyards that lie just a few hundred meters from the Mediterranean Sea. Alain Combard purchased the property in 1992 after discovering its cool coastal climate and
unique schist soils, these two factors define their style and their goal: to craft easy to enjoy wines with fresh acidity and minerality. A blend of the typical Rhone varieties with some Cabernet Sauvignon to add structure; the nose offers intense fruity notes evoking blackberry, cherry and black olive. Accents of spice and fresh tobacco punctuate its gourmet fruit aromas. The attack is fresh, then the wine gains in suppleness, generosity and deliciousness. The wine’s tension is balanced by an impression of sweetness. Long-lasting aromas of licorice and pepper.

LOVO VENETO, ‘BLOSSOM’ ROSSO 2020, VENETO, ITALY $15.99 Salvatore Lovo works with his wife Rita & daughter Silvia, growing varieties of northern Italy, tending 17 hectares of high-altitude vines & working with like minded local growers. The winery was built in 2004 on farmlands that have been in the family since the 18th century. The Blossom Rosso is a 50/50 blend of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, grown in the hills of Italy’s Veneto region. Enologist Salvatore Lovo runs the estate with the help of his daughter, Silvia. Together, the Lovos tend over 105 hectares just south of Padua. This medium-bodied red has a core of dark red fruit, along with notes of herbs and spice. Try it with grilled Italian sausages.

KIKI Y JUAN, BLACNO 1L 2023, VALENCIA, SPAIN $16.99 Kiki & Juan is a new Spanish project from John “Juan” House (of Ovum fame) and his business partner Kerin “Kiki” Auth Bembry. They met on a bus in Spain in 2011 and formed an instant connection that is expressed in these joyful wines. These are certified organic crushers, their wines come in 1 Liter bottles, that playfully express the terroir of Utiel-Requena in Valencia. Their white blend is composed of 90% Macabeo (the cava grape) and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, co-fermented with native yeast. I’ve always loved these blends, they seem to dovetail in a magical way that brings out the best in each other. Ripe Bartlett pear and starfruit jump from the glass, followed by a wallop of salty sea air. Pair with scallops, shrimp, any kind of seafood really, would also be amazing with a goat cheese salad.

ESPORÃO, ‘BICO AMARELO' 2023, VINHO VERDE, PORTUGAL $14.99 Represents the diversity of the region and its main grape varieties (Loureiro, Alvarinho and Avesso). A light, refreshing wine without added sugar or carbonation, yet rich in aromatic intensity. Harvested by hand. Whole clusters pneumatically crushed. Must cold-decanted for 24 hours.Fermented in stainless steel, temperature-controlled vats (14-16ºC). Aged on the lees. No added sugar or carbonation. Fresh, light and lush, with citrus notes and tropical aromas predominating. Fresh and lively with good volume. Long and refreshing finish.

LA GALOPE, SAUVIGNON BLANC 2023, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE $12.99 Pascal Debon purchased the 100 hectare Domaine de l’Herré Vineyard in 2010 with the goal of creating wines filled with the famous Gascon spirit of “bonhomie”—conviviality, congeniality, & joviality. Grapes grow on sun-drenched hills near the Pyrenees on sandy, clay-loam subsoils. The warm, sunny days are tempered with refreshingly cool nights. Juicy & nicely concentrated, this fruit-forward SB is filled with subtle floral aromas alongside spicy notes of fresh citrus & grapefruit. Crisp, grassy & herbal, the bright acidity leads to a light, fruity finish.
