MARY TAYLOR, ‘OLIVIER GESSLER' BLANC 2023, CÔTES DE GASCOGNE, FRANCE $12.99 Having immigrated from Switzerland, the Gessler fam settled here in 1928. Now the 4th generation is running the show and operating a robust family business with 20 full-time employees. They tend to indigenous varietals such as Colombard, Ugni Blanc, and Gros Manseng, from which this wine is made. It is bright and crisp, with notes of citrus and tropical fruit and lip-smacking minerality. In true Mary Taylor Wine fashion, this is not only an affordable wine, but a genuine and authentic expression of a unique terroir. Pair with fish tacos with zesty slaw, grilled oysters, or for the plant-based crowd: cheesy baked spaghetti squash.
KIKI Y JUAN, BLACNO 1L 2023, VALENCIA, SPAIN $16.99 (MIXED) Kiki & Juan is a new Spanish project from John “Juan” House (of Ovum fame) and his business partner Kerin “Kiki” Auth Bembry. They met on a bus in Spain in 2011 and formed an instant connection that is expressed in these joyful wines. These are certified organic crushers, their wines come in 1 Liter bottles, that playfully express the terroir of Utiel-Requena in Valencia. Their white blend is composed of 90% Macabeo (the cava grape) and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, co-fermented with native yeast. I’ve always loved these blends, they seem to dovetail in a magical way that brings out the best in each other. Ripe Bartlett pear and starfruit jump from the glass, followed by a wallop of salty sea air. Pair with scallops, shrimp, any kind of seafood really, would also be amazing with a goat cheese salad.
FAMILLE LIEUBEAU, ‘LA FRUITIÈRE’ CHARDONNAY 2022, LOIRE VALLEY, FRANCE $15.99 It can be argued that Muscadet, in France’s Loire Valley, contains the most diverse array of geological soil types and terroirs in France. The most famous of these soils is the kitchen-counter-gorgeous granite of Clisson. So what happens if we take this same incredibly rich soil type and introduce Chardonnay? The answer to that question is the Famille Lieubeau Chardonnay. This is hand-harvested, low yield Chardonnay that grows on the famous granite of Clisson. In this parcel, there is virtually no dirt present, just meters and meters of crushed rock. The boys at Famille Lieubeau prefer minimal manipulation and like to let the wine do the talking. This is Muscadet’s answer to village Burgundy at a third the price. Nose of hazelnut and brioche, and a well-balanced, textured palate with notes of white fruits and toast. Best served as an aperitif, or with fish, poultry, or savory tarts.

Fresh, light and lush, with citrus notes and tropical aromas predominating. Fresh and lively with good volume. Long and refreshing finish.
CHALMERS, ‘MOTHER BLOCK’ WHITE BLEND 2022, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA $17.99 Mother Block White Blend is a co-fermented blend pulling the best qualities from six white Italian varieties, Vermentino and Fiano with touches of Gechetto, Greco, Glera and Pinot Bianco. The grapes are pressed and co-fermented on full solids. Wild ferment takes place and once dry, sees maturation in stainless steel with 6 months on fine lees. The cooler 2022 vintage has showcased the bright fresh and crunchy elements of all these varieties. Tangy lemon sorbet, zesty passionfruit, zingy pineapple and flourless almond cake. It tantalizes the taste buds with the same mix of fruits on the nose, coupled with cool stream cress, a nettle texture and a super cool feel to finish.
LA GALOPE, SAUVIGNON BLANC 2023, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE $12.99 (MIXED) Pascal Debon purchased the 100 hectare Domaine de l’Herré Vineyard in 2010 with the goal of creating wines filled with the famous Gascon spirit of “bonhomie”—conviviality, congeniality, & joviality. Grapes grow on sun-drenched hills near the Pyrenees on sandy, clay-loam subsoils. The warm, sunny days are tempered with refreshingly cool nights. Juicy & nicely concentrated, this fruit-forward SB is filled with subtle floral aromas alongside spicy notes of fresh citrus & grapefruit. Crisp, grassy & herbal, the bright acidity leads to a light, fruity finish.
