MARY TAYLOR BY ANNA MARIA SALA, NERO D’AVOLA 2022, SICILY, ITALY $16.99 (MIXED) From the Contrada San Nicola vineyard outside the village of Mazara del Vallo in western Sicily, we find Nero d’Avola vines tended to by the ever-thoughtful Sala sisters. On average, the vines are just 15 years old, but the wine is ever-complex. While some Nero d’Avola wines can be on the dense and fruity side, the Sala sisters and the terroir make this wine a somewhat translucent red with bright acidity, tension; it shows off ripe cherries and succulent berries, subtly underscored by hints of spice, earth, and a mineral, saline finish due to its proximity to the sea. Its bright acidity intertwines gracefully on the palate with elegant fruit nuances, resulting in a translucent, chill-able red wine of remarkable complexity.

MURDOCH HILL, RED BLEND 2019, ADELAIDE HILLS, SOUTH AUSTRALIA $21.99 The Murdoch Hill vineyard is situated in the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills, near the township of Oakbank, in an undulating valley 420m in elevation. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, 55% and 45% respectively, selected for this wine are sourced from a predominately east-facing slope, producing fruit of more finesse by avoiding the harsh afternoon sun. The soil structure is predominately sandy loam over medium clay subsoils, with varying levels of ironstone, quartz and schist rock. Bright, supple, and varietally correct, this wine delivers all the pleasure and versatility you could want in an early-drinking Bordeaux/Rhône blend. Red and blue fruited, with flavors of quandong (a red native peach), red currant, blueberry, and plum. The savory notes of black pepper and strawberry acacia. Perfect with summertime BBQ.

HERÈNCIA ALTÉS, GARNATXA NEGRA 2022, CATALONIA, SPAIN $15.99 (MIXED) Winemaker Nuria Altes's Garnatxa Negra is all organically grown and hand harvested from her oldest vines of Grenache (100+ years!!!). The grapes are placed in small crates to protect the fruit from bruising on the way to the winery, chilled for 24 hrs to prevent any oxidation at the beginning of fermentation and then they undergo a natural wild yeast fermentation, manual punch downs everyday to extract the best color and are aged in 5,000 liter Austrian oak foudres for 4 months. The wine shows off a natural red vibrancy that inks the glass when poured. It has fresh aromas of fall picked ripe raspberries, pomegranate, red currants and my personal favorite, forest floor. It is beautifully balanced with supple dry tannins that envelope the juicy red fruits and mineral laden finish.

RONZANO, BARBERA D’ASTI 2022, PIEDMONT, ITALY $17.99. A story that began thanks to the sacrifice of grandfather Renato who, with hard work managed to redeem his life as a sharecropper by buying the property where he worked. In 1963, he planted the first hectares of vineyards and, since then, the Ronzano family has never stopped growing and dedicating the utmost attention to the land. Barbera d’Asti is knows for its clean, fruity, and intensely cherry-driven nose, on the palate it is soft with the right tannic texture, pleasant and easy-drinking. Perfect with a slight chill and a savory charcuterie platter.

ALTOS LAS HORMIGAS, ‘LA DANZA’ MALBEC 2022, MENDOZA, ARGENTINA $14.99 (MIXED) This Malbec has a cheerful red ruby color, with bright violet hues. On the nose, it is intense and fruity, displaying notes of red fruits, strawberries, fresh plums and subtle notes of grapefruit. It is a fresh and drinkable wine, with a balanced acidity in the palate and supple tannins. Flavors linger on the mouth, with a fruity finish. This is a very food-friendly wine, ideal to pair with several dishes such as red meats, pasta, or cold cuts plates.

BODEGAS ARAGONESAS, ‘CRUCILLON’ VINO TINTO 2022, ARAGON, SPAIN $12.99 Although Aragonesas Bodegas was founded in 1984, the cultivation of the vines – particularly Garnacha – stems from 1145 and the Cistercian monks of the Monastery of Veruela, located a short distance from Fuendejalón and Magallón.Wine made from Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes. The perfect blend of youth, freshness and intensity produces a very balanced wine. In the glass it is a beautiful cherry red color with blue edges denoting its youth. On the nose: fresh and potent aromas, clearly suggesting black and red fruits. The palate is smooth and well balanced, whose freshness and sweet tannins provide a remarkable complexity. Remarkably light and easy drinking for how rich it is, a perfect summertime red!
