MAISON BROTTE, ‘BAIES DORÉES’ VIOGNIER 2023, PAYS D’OC, FRANCE $14.99 The Brotte family has been making wine for 5 generations, but formally established their winery in 1931 when 2nd generation Charles Brotte set up shop in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A naturally weighty varietal, this Viognier sees no oak but has a rich, textured mouthfeel. We get notes of ripe white peach, tropical fruits, and citrusy orange peel. Subtle notes of white jasmine offer a delicate floral quality to the wine which, alongside a hint of green apple, provides balance to this wine medium body and fruit-forward palate. Pair with roasted root vegetables, or rich asian cuisine like peking duck.

QUINTA DE SANTIAGO, ‘VINHO VERDE’ 2023, MINHO, PORTUGAL $16.99 (MIXED) Quinta de Santiago is a family-owned farm spanning 7.5 hectares (18.5 acres) along the banks of the Minho River in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region of Vinho Verde. It has been in the Santiago family since 1899. For about 100 years, Quinta de Santiago's main activity was the production of wines, olive oil, lupine, cereals, milk, meat, and fruit for self-consumption. Grapes grown in the vineyards were sold to large cooperatives in the region. This changed in 2009 and from the passion and determination of then owner, Grandma Mariazinha Santiago (age 86), her children, and grandchildren, a boutique winery was born. This is what we call a ‘grown-up’ Vinho Verde: much more complex and dry than the typical offerings, it is packed with: lemon, grapefruit, lime, citrus fruit, apple, pear, stone fruit, peach and citrus.
OPSTAL WINES, ’SIXPENCE’ WHITE BLEND 2024, BREEDEKLOOF, SOUTH AFRICA $12.99 Situated in the Breedekloof Valley in the Cape Winelands. The Opstal Winery benefits from cool mountain breezes and a temperate Mediterranean climate that produces well balanced wines due to a slow ripening and a good diurnal shift. The estate dates back to 1847 but still only has around 100 hectares of vines under cultivation, with a unique terroir and diverse soil types they are able to a grow a variety of grapes on the estate. The alluvial soil on the banks of the Slanghoek river to the North and South of the Estate is utilized for the cultivation of the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon grapes for their proprietary white blend (60% SB/40% Sémillon). On the nose you will find aromas of yellow citrus, green apple and white peach, with floral notes of Jasmine and a touch of pineapple. On the palate it has some added richness with notes of stone fruit leading to a mineral driven finish that is clean a refreshing.

L.A. CETTO, CHARDONNAY 2023, VALLE DE GUADALUPE, MEXICO $14.99 (MIXED) Founded in 1928 by Don Angelo Cetto who survived WWI and then migrated to Mexico in 1924. Angelo started from scratch, buying grapes to make port and grappa, but he and his family have clawed their way to the top. Cetto is now Mexico's largest producer of wine. Today, a third-generation family-owned business, its continual high quality is one of the truly remarkable feats in the world of wine. A fresh and bright Chardonnay with a clean unoaked flavor profile of classic chardonnay. Yellow apple and tropical fruits on the nose followed by a mouthful of asian pear, white peach and a high vein of lemon zest.

CARLOS MORO, ‘OINOZ’ VERDEJO 2023, RUEDA, SPAIN $15.99 A refreshing and unique wine born from the Bodega Carlos Moro winery and made in the Rueda region of Spain, OINOZ is a modern collective of sustainable wines representing their own “style and sound”. Grown in gravel soils, this still white wine is fermented in stainless steel using native yeasts and aged on the lees for three months. This single-varietal Verdejo is fresh and vivacious, with opening notes of tropical fruits and white flowers rounding out with a long finish. Pair with seafood paella, creamy lemon shrimp pasta, and fresh salads dressed with vinaigrette.

WEINGUT FÜRST, ELBLING TROCKEN 1L 2023, MOSEL, GERMANY $17.99 (MIXED) The Fürst family has grown grapes and other crops at their estate in the Sauer Valley since the 13th century, and Michael is the third generation to make wine under the family name. He tends 12 hectares of the eclectic Elbling variety most of which is old vines. A curious varietal, which ruled the German wine landscape long before Riesling came along but has fallen into obscurity. Thankfully we are seeing a revival of appreciation for this crisp, briny, low-alcohol wine. Think German Muscadet, and pair this bright, mineral white with oysters, salads, or even club soda (Gespritzt!)
