VERA, VINHO VERDE 2023, MINHO, PORTUGAL $14.99 For years Vinho Verde has been a byword for cheap, mass produced, off-dry spritzer wines that while perfect while it’s too hot for anything else, can lack depth and complexity. This trend can be considered officially bucked with the new offering from Vera, while they have been making wine for decades, they formally entered the Vinho Verde ring in 2010, bringing a dryer, less spritzy, single estate wine with more substance and complexity than normally contributed to their category. A blend of 60% Arinto, 30% Azal, 10% Loureiro, the Arinto brings bright acidity and aging potential, Azal is citric and fresh and Loureiro is aromatic and delicate. Clean, lively flavors of lime, ripe pink and yellow grapefruit pervade every sip. A perfect companion to moules frites.

THIERRY DELAUNAY, ‘LE GRAND BALLON’ SAUVIGNON BLANC 2023, TOURAINE, FRANCE $18.99 (MIXED) Thierry Delaunay's 21 hectares of vines lie smack dab in the middle of Touraine. The Delaunay family has been tending the land for 5 generations. In addition to growing their own estate fruit, Thierry purchases grapes from local growers for the easy-on-the-wallet line of "Le Grand Ballon" wines. The name refers to the ubiquitous hot air balloons that float over the fancy châteaux of the Loire Valley. Pale gold with green highlights. Pronounced, expressive and complex nose - exotic fruits, blackcurrant buds, grapefruit, peach - as well as some floral notes. Well-balanced, long and rich on the palate. A true staff favorite that delivers all of the grass, mineral and herbal notes of Sancerre at a bargain price.

TWO BIRDS ONE STONE, COLOMBARD 2023, SOUTHWEST FRANCE $12.99 A tale of two birds: one old world and one new world, the one stone they have in common is their love for outstanding wines and great terroirs. This story reflects the journey of head winemaker Marilyn Lasserre, born in the heart of southern France, she traveled the new world for her eduction: South America, South Africa and Australia. She has since returned to her native home, and began making wines that reflect this syncretic approach. This white is produced from Colombard, the chief variety used in Cognac proaction. As a still wine it displays delicate aromas of nectarine and grapefruit. Crisp and light-bodied, with a pleasant minerality. Enjoy this wine as an aperitif or with cold cuts, mature cheeses, seafood.
TERZETTO, GAVI 2022, PIEDMONT, ITALY $16.99 (MIXED) A Terzetto is a musical composition for three voices. This lyrical name was chosen to highlight the three essential parts which must synchronize in harmony to create this wine: The Land, Grape and People. If any member of this trio is missing or out of tune, the wine is not possible. The ancient hillsides of Piedmont, are one of the few places on earth where the unique Cortese grape produces distinctive wines, but only when tended and crafted with knowledge and experience of people who have lived there for generations. Light-bodied and clean with peach and almond aromas. Dry and cheerful with soft melon and apricot flavors, juicy acidity and hints of minerality.
PRODUTTORI DI MANDURIA, ‘ALICE’ VERDECA 2023, PUGLIA, ITALY $18.99 Produttori di Manduria is the oldest active wine cooperative in Puglia, it was first established in 1928. Made from 100% Verdeca, a lesser-known grape variety primarily found in Puglia. It shows delicious aromas of hawthorn and acacia, cedar and yellow grapefruit, alongside mineral and saline notes. On the palate the texture is supple and refreshing, with notes of tangerine, and tropical fruits. ‘Alice’ means anchovy in the local dialect and this bottle is perfect for washing down grilled or fried seafood – or equally good sipping by itself on a warm summer day by the pool.
LONE BIRCH, PINOT GRIS 2023, YAKIMA VALLEY, WASHINGTON STATE $14.99 (MIXED) All of the Lone Birch Wines are sourced from fruit from their 830 acre estate located in the Yakima Valley. The vineyard site offers a long growing season, which allows for slow, steady fruit maturation. The warm days and the cool nights provided by the high desert environment allow the vines to produce exceptional balance with ripe fruit flavors and plenty of natural acidity. Enticing aromas of candied pineapple, fresh tangerine, white peach, and lime zest pave the way for a luscious, fruit-forward palate with a crisp, balanced finish. Perfect aperitif wine, it would also pair well with spicy Szechuan food.
