MAS DE BOISLAUZON, ‘LA CHAUSSYNETTE’ 2022, CÔTES-DU-RHÔNE, FRANCE $16.99 (MIXED) La Chaussynette is a wine crafted by the brothers: Quentin, Arnaud and Joris. Initially produced for bulk, the wine proved too delicious to be sold as such, and was instead bottled. A delightful blend of Grenache and Syrah, La Chaussynette offers a beautiful bouquet of ripe berry fruits complemented with notes of mixed herbs. The medium-bodied palate is loaded with ripe strawberry and raspberry flavors accented with touches of lime zest, mint and fennel. The wine possesses moderate tannins and a lifted acidity that support this wonderful red to a long, saline-laced finish. Pair with veal sautéed with mushrooms or roast pork tenderloins with peppers and onions.

VAONA, VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 2023, VENETO, ITALY $17.99 Valpolicella is the name given to the larger region in northern Italy where the famed Amarone wine comes from, and while that wine occupies some of the highest echelons of the wine world, it is a very big and sometimes cumbersome wine, destined more for the roasted mead dish of elaborate mulit-course meals. It is very refreshing then, that this region also produces a plethora of light and easy drinking wines, such as this offering from the Vaona Family’s vineyards, located in the hills of the Classic Valpolicella area, at an altitude of about 200-250 meters above sea level. A lovely summery red, full of cherry, raspberry, and light herbal flavors. Good acidity on the palate makes this wine a great partner with a wide variety of foods.

LUBANZI, CINSAULT 2023, W.O. SWARTLAND, SOUTH AFRICA $14.99 (MIXED) Lubanzi is named for a wandering dog, who inspired co-founders Charlie Brain & Walker Brown to create this project after falling in love with South Africa as exchange students. At the core of this wine project is a focus on giving back to the families who live and work on South Africa's wine farms via the Pebbles Project, in the form of health and education support. The wine itself is gorgeous: Cinsault, once relegated to the sidelines, as the parent of Pinotage, has launched a comeback as the favored grape of South Africa’s winemakers. Characteristically light in color & low in tannin, there is a certain gentleness to this wine. A crunchy character with dark cherries, raisins, strawberries & minty tannins.

DOMAINE DE LA PRÉBENDE, ‘ANNA ASMAQUER’ 2023, BEAUJOLAIS, FRANCE $18.99. Domaine de la Prébende produces a deeply mineral Beaujolais from a predominantly clay and limestone terroir, a rarity in a region dominated by granite soils...The Prébende Beaujolais cuvée, “Anna Asmaquer,” is named for Ghislaine's great grandmother, who married Jules Dupeuble in 1919. The family wanted to add her name to the label because it was Anna who managed the vineyards and winemaking—she is the true source of inspiration for what has become Domaine de la Prébende today.

CULTUSBONI, ‘CETAMURA’ 2022, CHIANTI, ITALY $14.99 (MIXED) Since 1846 Badia a Coltibuono has belonged to the Stucchi Prinetti family. Six generations have succeeded with passion and respect for its extraordinary legacy. The Stucchi are to be considered pioneers of Chianti, having invested in this land since 1846 when their ancestor, Florentine banker Michele Giuntini bought the beautiful property. This delightful chianti, named ‘Cetamura’ after an ancient Etruscan settlement discovered on the property, is a blend of fruit from the Siena and Arezzo zones, Intense bright ruby red, cherry nose with floral nuances. Well-balanced, soft but tasty, with good structure. Pleasant acidity, clean and persistent aftertaste. Obvious pairings are pizza and pasta, it goes great with Chinese food as well…

‘BRAAI’ CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2023, W.O. WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA $12.99 People love to grill and cook over an open flame, no more so than in South Africa, where archaeologists have discovered the earliest recorded evidence of barbecuing or ‘braai'. They’ve even renamed their national Heritage Day “Braai Day”. And what would grilling be without a bold yet refreshing red to pair it with? A bold yet elegant Cabernet, Braai’s version delivers abundant notes of dark berries with a hint of matchstick. The essence of a braai is captured in this easy-drinking Cab. It is your go-to companion for socializing any night of the week and it seamlessly complements a wide range of flavors (particularly anything prepared over open flame!).
